For over 41 years, Brickhouse Design Group has provided architectural and design services to private clients, various New York State agencies, and insurance companies working with individuals who are physically challenged or aging in place. Our goal is to assist our clients to live independent, empowered lives by selecting the right providers of mobility products and services to meet their individual needs.

We were a 35-person company with 6 million dollars a year in sales and construction. Our services included architectural drawings and home modifications for the physically challenged and senior persons. This enabled our customers to lead a more independent life. We participated in several national home shows a year which illustrated our services.

Director and Co-Founder of “Hygeia’s Accessibility House”
Showcased barrier-free design concepts and highly enabling products for persons with disabilities. The house opened up to the general public in January 1983 and was the first of its kind in the country. We averaged 2000 visitors a year from around the world.

I worked in the field of prosthetics and orthopedics constructing artificial limbs and braces. I worked with physicians and serviced several clinics from Long Island to upstate New York.

Interior Design Article, 1991 FDR Memorial Home Design Todd Brickhouse worked on Franklin D. Roosevelt’s memorial home, specifically the bedroom and den, with noted International Interior Designer, Katherine Stephens in 1983.
The name of the exhibit was “A MAN FOR OUR TIME” Franklin Roosevelt Barrier Free Den / Bedroom. This was sponsored by the International Society of Interior Designers. The exhibit was located at the Sara Delano Roosevelt Memorial House at 47-49 East 65th Street in New York City from October 3, 1983- October 31, 1983, to benefit the March of Dimes.

Technological Products and Services for your home as you “Age in Place” will provide you with the most current ways to interact with many providers of service; from ordering your groceries to speaking with your family doctor. Companies such as Verizon and Cablevision will offer new packages with your cable services that will allow you to speak with a concierge live on your television, who can remind you to take your meds or assist you with planning your day.

We met with the Dean of the School of Health and Technology and the Director of the Rehabilitation Research Movement Performance Laboratory (RRAMP, Lab). It was a very interesting meeting about this advanced rehabilitation facility and the future plans to develop a “Fitness Center” that will cater to everyone, including those with physical challenges, by providing fitness equipment to allow persons to do their workouts from a wheelchair.

I developed the Adapt-Ability Program for the Hotel Motel and Resort Industry. Developed accessible products and assisted in the selection and use of these items for persons with disabilities. We worked with Avis Car Rental Company in their National Avis Access Program as well as Cendant and Neutrogena Companies.
